Student Pedagogies for Social Change

A youth-led social justice literary magazine
"When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful." - Malala Yousafzai
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"If you want peace, work for justice." - Pope Paul VI
Our Mission
We firmly believe in the power of diversity, student voices, and solidarity and aim to promote these qualities through each of our magazine issues. Student Pedagogies for Social Change looks for writing and artwork that offer creative examinations of our society's inner workings, the systems we are all part of. We at Student Pedagogies believe that art and writing can be vehicles for positive change, and our journal seeks to give voice to students who are passionate about advocating for a more just and equitable world.
Submissions are always open!
We believe in...
Uplifting new voices
We are a student-led publication, and we aim to broaden the scope of who are considered "writers." We believe that the person who is just now picking up the pen deserves the same chances as the one who has hundreds of poems or a novel under their belt.

Accessibility
Our submissions are always free and open, and no fee is associated with reading our literary magazine.
Themed Issues: Our Philosophy
We believe that our themes are not meant to be limiting or to hinder the content of submissions we receive for a given issue. Rather, we believe in themed issues because of how they illuminate the ways in which different interpretations lead to diversity in content and the unique methods of reaching a common goal.
Theme for Issue 2: Silences
The world is never really silent. Somewhere, there is always movement. By extension, there is always sound, even if we cannot hear it. Silence, therefore, is a purely human concept, one based off the limitations (and simultaneous expansiveness) of our human senses.

But we are only human—our thoughts, feelings, writing, and art are all informed by the way we experience the world. Silence, if not Real, is real to us. With that said...

What do you notice in your silence or in the silence of your surroundings?
How do you respond to such silences?
What issues, whose voices, have been silenced?
What silences do you wish to preserve, and what silences do you want to address and make heard?

Your submission does not have to adhere to the aforementioned prompts, though they should relate in some way to issues pertinent to voice, hearing, advocacy, or other issues that are in the interest of social change.
