What Are...?
Simultaneous Submissions
Simultaneous submissions are pieces that are submitted to more than one publication at the same time. Many literary magazines and academic journals allow for simultaneous submissions under the condition that if the piece is accepted elsewhere, the writer/artist take it upon themselves to notify the other journals—as the majority of publications do not allow for previously published work. However, remember to check guidelines closely for each journal, as journals have varying policies.
Biographies (Bios)
Bios—in the context of academic and literary journals—are typically short third person paragraphs that can list professional credentials, previous publications and experience in that field, awards and honors, and other components of that nature. While it depends on what kind of journal publication you submit to, certain bios can also contain fun details such as your hobbies and pets.
Previously Published Works
Student Pedagogies for Social Change recognizes previously published work to be work published anywhere in print or online. Online platforms include other literary magazines, publicly available contest submissions, personal blogs, school websites, among others. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. If you're unsure if your work is considered "previously published," please reach out to us, as we do not currently consider previously published pieces for publication.
